Joeys

Meeting Times: Saturday 12:55–14:30
Ages: 5 – 8yrs

Joey Scouts are children between the ages of six and nearly eight. This Section provides an introduction to Scouting through a wide range of enjoyable activities.

The activities are aimed at helping the Joey Scouts learn about themselves, nature, helping others and finding fun in accordance with the Joey Scout theme “Help Other People”.

The Joey Scouts form what is called a Mob, which is led by a number of leaders. Leaders are not referred to as Mr or Mrs but (usually) by names of Australian animals or Aboriginal words, for example Keela, Quokka, Kwilana. (And Rama and Chil!)

Joey Scouts do a wide variety of things in their Section. Some of these include cutting, drawing, colouring, painting, pasting, making musical instruments and singing, flying kites and listening to stories. We go out on Adventures, explore science, look for birds, plant trees and play lots of games. And obviously, we’re Sea Scouts, so we take advantage of our location to play around beside and in the river!

Pelican Point Joey Scouts meet for 90 minutes weekly. We regularly have Outings (away from the hall) which last for a couple of hours, and most years there are a couple of Branch event with Joeys from all around the state.
